EADS Innovation Works, Germany (EADS IW). EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2011, the Group – comprising Airbus, Astrium, Cassidian and Eurocopter – generated revenues of €49.1 billion and employed a workforce of over 133,000.

EADS Innovation Works is a global network of trans-national Technical Capability Centres (TCCs) that have the mission to identify new value-creating technologies and to develop technological skills and resources. The organisation also operates EADS’ corporate research and technology laboratories that promote the group’s technical innovation potential with a focus on the long-term.

There is currently a strong focus on environmentally friendly air transport, including alternative power generation technologies, such as fuel cells and novel energy storage. EADS Innovation Works will primarily be responsible for the development of the testing and evaluation methodology (WP1), and for validation of the complete system within the military field charger and UAV application (WP8).

Key personnel

Dr. Jürgen Steinwandel
Dr. Jürgen Steinwandel is a Dipl. - Physicist and Dipl. - Chemist. He is company executive expert in Technical Physics and Physical Manufacturing Processes. He has a wide spectrum of experience: Plasma and Laser Physics and Technology (since 1975), Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics (since 1977), Production Research and Technology (since 1987). Currently Jürgen is working for TCC 2, Metallic Technologies & Surface Engineering and is involved in numeral European and National projects. His experience in fuel cells and fuel processing dates back to 1985 and the work at Dornier and Daimler, including SOFC and PEM stack development.

Dr. Agata Godula-Jopek

Dr. Agata Godula-Jopek is a member of TCC 6, Energy and Propulsion and is a fuel cells expert. She has MSc in Chemical Engineering, MSc in Marketing and Management and MSc in Foreign Trade (all three obtained in Cracow, Poland). She has PhD (at Polish Academy of Sciences in Cracow) and Postdoctoral research (at MTU CFC Solutions, Germany) both in the field of Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells. She is a board member of Fuel Cell Europe (Brussels). In the past Agata was involved in the work for the European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform, Implementation Panel as a Core group member for Aeronautics.

Dr. Blanka Lenczowski
Dr. Blanka Lenczowski is a member of TCC 2, Metallic Technologies & Surface Engineering. She is a senior expert for metallic technology. Blanka was a Scientific Engineer (1992-6) at EADS involved in RTD on light alloys & processes. From 1999 she was Manager of Materials Technology, being responsible for: RTD on light alloys & processes; management of national and trans-national research projects; cooperation with Russian institutes and companies; cooperation with material suppliers for Airbus; definition of strategy and road map in these research areas; and transfer and support of research results to the UB’s (example Al-Mg-Sc, Al-Li, creep forming, CNT-technology).
